Freedom
Freedom is a concept that few human beings have been able to experience. There are those who live in countries that claim to be the freedom fighters for the rest of the world. But seeing it up close, we can be more slaves than those who nev er knew this strange form of freedom.
Under the name of liberty we bind ourselves to a prison like daily routine, to get the things that slave us even more. Because when we obtain these things we need to keep then in perfect condition, given them maintenance because we need to make sure they work and look well. Then we have to make sure they are not stolen from us.
A house, a car, jewelry, clothes, things and more things that instead of giving us freedom and happiness they enslave us and take away our peace.
Coupled with these things comes the competition, my things are better than the things of others, and if I have more than the rest, I have this weird idea that somehow I’ll be a better person. We feel more important. We created this motto that “more is better”.
We can also say that we have nothing, so we are free. But maybe we have bad habits and routines that without them we can’t function well on our daily lives. Our daily cup(s) of coffee to wake up, our favorite foods, and even the idea of a healthy diet to lengthen the life enslavement we are living.
Smoking and drugs that soothes all kinds of human sufferings.
Or we maybe addicted to toxic relationships that oppress and bind us to a life of pain and anxiety.
We go from one relationship to another looking in others for what we can find inside ourselves.
We may have mental chains; we maybe imprisoned in a cell of pain, resentment, hatred, fear, intolerance or sexual obsessions.
So who can say that he is really free?
We drag our chains disguised as masks, we may feel we have a more beautiful mask than others, we may have stronger arguments than others, and we may say that our chains are lighter than others, or we could even find almost sacred arguments to show off our chains.
But at the end of the day, what are they any way?
They are chains.
We have this silly illusion to believe that those who are deprived of their freedom are only those who are behind bars. And our chains?
We could be outdoors receiving the sunlight, but in our minds and in our lives there are walls and fences higher than those in a maximum security prison.
We have convicted ourselves and the funny part is that when we serve our sentence, we impose yet another one.
It goes something like this: When I pay the car, when I pay the house, when I finish school, when I get married, when I get the divorce, when I win the lottery, when I retire, when the democrats rule the congress, when my family believe like I do, when I get a job, when I quit smoking, when I leave jail. When, when, when, when.
Life imprisonment: We are the worst judges we could find to hear our case and give the sentence.
What binds you? What drowns you? What worries you? What hurts you? What is overwhelming? What is it that sometimes takes your brea th away and you feel like something presses your chest and leaves you gasping for air?
God created us free. But, all by ourselves and with no help at all we have gotten into our cells using the so-called “Free Wi ll”
We have chained ourselves; we have divided in races, creeds, nationalities, groups and bands with endless labels and barriers. It’s them vs. us.
We set up ourselves with goals, thoughts, believes and nonsense that takes away our freedom.
Not even in the spiritual path do we allow freedom to guide us, because we impose many rules, commandments and precepts that instead of giving us light, they obscure our thoughts, and our minds became narrowed. Sometimes we have the absurd idea that our spiritual path is better than those of others. Maybe we think that our way is truer than the rest.
In some instances we even believe that we are the “Chosen Ones” by a god that seems more human than the humans.
We tied ourselves even more, we become fanatical and the walls rise higher and more absurd.
In order to experience true Freedom we have to abandon all preconceived notions and ideas related to EVERYTHING in our lives, because what we have experienced has given us either Freedom or Peace!
Surrender to God completely He is the only one who really knows what is true Freedom, because He is Free, He is Love and He created us the same way.
Even if we are now behind bars we can still experience freedom, because freedom is an innate condition of the Spirit. We will nev er find freedom on the physical plane, but we can experience it in the physical.
Let’s release our chains; let’s open the doors of our mental prison where we have placed ourselves and FLY, LET’S BE REALLY FREE!
Let’s place our minds in the hands of the Holy Sprit, or whatever we believe that is bigger than us, let’s not limit ourselves on this, andlet’s call our angels, our guides, our God; so they can clean us up, they will heal us, and they will do an overhaul. And we will achieve true freedom, no matter where we are physically.
We can be called a slave and have a master, but we can feel free. Because the mind and the spirit; we chained ourselves even though they are always free.
With Love,
Patricia E. Garcia
We are free the door is wide open, but we have locked the door and forgotten where we have placed the keys
